Karim-Mohamed Maamoun advanced to his first quarterfinal on the ATP Challenger Tour, winning his second round encounter at the €43,000 Bucher Reisen Tennis Grand Prix against Germany’s Marc Sieber in straight sets.
The 26-year-old from Egypt saved three of the four break points he faced, converting five of his own to secure a 6-2, 6-3 victory in one hour and 16 minutes. The winner of five singles titles on the ITF Pro Circuit in the opening quarter of 2017 will next take on seventh Jeremy Jahn. The World No. 202 from Germany beat Inigo Cervantes of Spain 6-4, 7-6 in one hour and 41 minutes.
Aleksandr Nedovyesov rallied from a set down to overcome Frenchman Axel Michon 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. The 30-year-old from the Ukraine outpointed his opponent 96-85 and prevailed after two hours and 14 minutes. Next up for Nedovyesov will be Spaniard Ricardo Ojeda Lara, who beat Swedish qualifier Markus Eriksson 6-4, 6-3 after one hour and 26 minutes.
