Organizers of the Pekao Szczecin Open announced that former that World No. 30 Richard Gasquet has taken a wild card into the main draw of the €127,000 ATP Challenger event, held on clay from 9 to 17 September 2017.
The 31-year-old Frenchman will return to largest city of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland for the first time since 2004. Back then, Gasquet was ranked World No. 124 and lost in the opening round to Italian Tomas Tenconi. Two weeks later he reached his first title on the ATP World Tour, finishing runner-up in Metz to Jerome Haehnel.
It was the starting point of a successful career. Gasquet captured 14 ATP career titles and reached a career high World No. 7 in the ATP Rankings in 2007. He earned $15,474,130 in prize money.
Gasquet will compete in his first ATP Challenger event since lifting the trophy in Bordeaux seven years ago. He is projected the tournament’s top seed. Horacio Zeballos from Argentina also received a wild card. The official entry list is led by World No. 60. Federico Delbonis.
