Angelique Kerber, former World No. 1 and two-time Grand Slam champion, will play in the third edition of the WTA Mallorca Open, which will take place at the Country Club Santa Ponsa from the 17th til the 24th June. The German player, who started 2018 by winning Sydney and reaching the Australian Open semi-finals, is the second player confirmed for the tournament after Caroline Garcia.
“I am really excited to play the Mallorca Open 2018”, said Kerber. “I love the island of Mallorca and the beautiful grass courts in Santa Ponsa in which I had the chance to prepare for Wimbledon last year. I am just happy to be playing here in 2018 and look forward to see you all there!”.
Kerber, World No. 9 at the moment, has started the season in extraordinary form, back to her best. In 2016, the German achieved the best results in her career, a dream season, reaching her first Grand Slam final in Melbourne, where she beat Serena Williams, winning the Silver medal at the Rio Olympics and also winning her second Grand Slam title at the US Open. Those results made her reach the throne at the WTA Rankings, a position she held for 20 straight weeks.

Now, Kerber will have the opportunity to fight for the title, a crown that now possesses Anastasija Sevastova.
