Guido Andreozzi is the champion of the first ATP Challenger clay-court event of the season, winning the inaugural $50,000 Punta Open held at the Cantegril Country Club. The unseeded Argentine rallied past the tournament’s No. 6 Simone Bolelli of Italy, who appeared in his first singles final since 2014, 3-6, 6-4 ,6-3.
Andreozzi broke serve two times and won 52 per cent of the total points played to prevail after two hours and 43 minutes.
By lifting his fifth ATP Challenger crown, his first of the season, the 26-year-old from Buenos Aires earns $7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP ranking points.
Later in the day, Bolelli was back in action but lost the doubles final alongside fellow Italian Alessandro Giannessi 6-2, 7-6 to Facundo Bagnis of Argentina and Ariel Behar from Uruguay. The encounter lasted one hour and 21 minutes.
