All four seeded players in action fell in Thursday’s second round matches of the $100,000 CDMX Open at the Club Deportivo Chapultepec. Jan Choinski upset the tournament’s No. 3 and champion of the ATP Challenger in Panamá last week, Carlos Berlocq of Argentina, 6-3, 6-4.

The 21-year-old German landed 81 per cent of his first serves, winning 76 per cent of the points. Choinski broke his opponent three times to seal victory in one hour and 28 minutes. The World No. 239 will next take on Facundo Arguello of Argentina, who rallied past No. 5 seed Mats Moraing from Germany 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 in two hours and six minutes.

Two qualifiers will square off in the quarterfinals, as Juan Ignacio Londoero knocked out No. 2 seed Thiago Monteiro of Brazil 6-4, 6-1 to take on Jose Hernandez-Fernandez next. The 28-year-old from the Dominican Republic battled past seventh favourite Marcelo Arevalo from El Salvador 6-7, 7-6, 6-4. Hernandez-Fernandez withstood 11 aces, hitting three of his own to prevail after two hours and 52 minutes.
