For the third consecutive year, a member of the ‘Big 4’ took on a player making his first appearance in the Wimbledon final. Milos Raonic finished runner-up to Andy Murray in 2016 and Marin Cilic finished runner-up to Roger Federer here last year.

On Sunday it was again the favourite, who emerged victorious, when Novak Djokovic defeated Kevin Anderson 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(3).

The 31-year-old former World No. 1, who was contesting in his 22nd Grand Slam final, capitalized on all of his four break point chances to prevail after two hours and 19 minutes.

“I’d have given another 21 hours to have the opportunity to play out here – it really meant a lot to me,” Anderson said during his on-court interview.

Djokovic captured his first Grand Slam title for 25 months with his fourth crown at SW19. The World No. 21 from Serbia also lifted the trophy in 2011, 2014 and 2015.

“I had many moments of doubt, I didn’t know if could come back to this level to compete,” said Djokovic.

“There is no better place to make a comeback, it’s a sacred place for the world of tennis, it’s very special.”

Djokovic will move back into the top 10 when the latest ATP rankings are released on Monday.
