Kaja Juvan will break into the Top 200 of the WTA Rankings for the first time following her triumph at the 8° TROFEO CPZ Spa in Bagnatica, Italy, on Sunday.
The Slovenian did not drop a set en route to the clay-court final and beat sixth-seeded Italian Jasmine Paolini 6-7(8), 6-1, 7-5 at the $25,000+H ITF Pro Circuit event.
“This was my first tournament after taking some time off to rest and practice so I’m thrilled to have won it,” said Juvan. “It wasn’t an easy week with rain and three matches in the last two days. The final was so close, I was 3-5 down in the final set, but managed to win it. I am looking forward to new challenges in Zagreb, Croatia this week.”
It marks the fifth ITF Pro title of her career (5-3 record in finals) – and third of the year – following on from victories at Balatongolar, Hungary (d. Serban) in April and at Ystad, Sweden (d. Rosca) in June.
The 19-year-old was at No. 532 in the WTA Rankings on 9 April this year and has now won 28 of her past 32 matches.
