“It’s really an incredible emotion,” Sonego said after the match. He has become the fifth Italian winner in Genova. “I felt good and I dreamed of winning this trophy. My performance against Brown? It was not easy, he is a great player but I managed to play a perfect match without making mistakes. I’m really happy because this is a very high level tournament and I thank the crowd for their support.”
The 23-year-old Italian clinched his second trophy on the ATP Challenger Tour following his victory in Ortisei last year. Sonego earns €18,200 in prize money as well as 125 ATP-Ranking points.
Earlier in the day, Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies of Germany took the doubles title. The duo beat the all-Slovak-combination of Martin Klizan and Filip Polasek 6-2, 3-6, 10-2. The encounter lasted one hour and 15 minutes.
