Blaz Kavcic lifted his 17th ATP Challenger trophy, taking the title of the $75,000 hard-court event on the Road to the Rolex Shanghai Masters in Shanghai. The unseeded Slovenian beat the tournament’s No. 8 Hiroki Moriya of Japan 6-1, 7-6(1) in Sunday’s final.
Kavcic fired 15 aces, winning 81 per cent of his first service points to seal victory in one hour and 34 minutes. It is the first title of the season for the 31-year-old Dubai resident. Kavcic collects $10,800 in prize money as well as 80 ATP-Ranking points.
Earlier in the day, Mao-Xin Gong and Ze Zhang took the doubles title. In an all-Chinese final, the No. 2 seeds battled past Runhao Hua and Zizhen Zhang 6-4, 3-6, 10-4. The encounter lasted one hour and 14 minutes.
