The semi-finals of the Sibiu Open are set. Laslo Djere is the top seed of the €43,000 ATP Challenger clay-court event and advances to the stage of the final four, rallying past Lukas Rosol from the Czech Republic 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 on Friday afternoon.
Djere sent down six aces, winning 60 per cent of his first service points to prevail after one hour and 44 minutes. The World No. 86 from Serbia will next take Jelle Sels from the Netherlands, who emerged victorious from the battle of the qualifiers with Spaniard Javier Barranco Cosano. The 23-year-old from Alphen aan den Rijn won 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 in two hours and three minutes.
Pedro Martínez of Spain battled past No. 3 seed Pedro Sousa from Portugal 6-4, 6-7(2), 6-2. The World No. 183 saved 14 of the 18 break points he faced, capitalizing on seven of his own 12 chances to secure victory in two hours and seven minutes.
Next up for Martínez will be Romanian wild card entry Dragos Dima. The 26-year-old from Bucharest delighted his home crowd by beating Kamil Majchrzak of Poland 0-6, 7-6(5), 6-3. The encounter lasted one hour and 53 minutes.
