Brengle Claims Stockton Women’s Title

Hayley Carter and partner Ena Shibahara were crowned the doubles champions, while top seed Madison Brengle avoided an upset to claim the singles title at the 2018 Stockton Pro Open over Danielle Lao at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center on Sunday.

Doubles started the day off with Carter and Shibahara ousting Quinn Gleason and Louisa Stefani for the doubles title. In the first set, Gleason and Stefani were up 4-1, before Carter and Shibahara scored three games in a row to tie the set, 4-4, and go on to win it, 7-5.

In the second set, Gleason and Stefani took a 7-5 victory behind a 74 percent (23/31) first serve in and limited mistakes to force a tiebreaker. In the tiebreak, the two teams traded off points until Carter and Shibahara scored the last three points in a row to take tiebreaker, 10-7, and claim the doubles title.

Madison Brengle battled her way to victory over Danielle Lao. In the first set, Lao was up 5-1 before Brengle took the next six games to claim the 7-5 set victory.

In the second set, they both traded off games up to 6-6 forcing a tiebreaker. In the tiebreak, Lao had three set point opportunities but could not capitalize on it, as Brengle took it 12-10 to claim the set, 7-6.

During her five singles victories at the Stockton Pro Open, Brengle did not lose a single set and she completed her matches in two sets.
