Anna-Lena Friedsam and Mats Moraing are the singles champions of the 47th edition of Germany’s National Tennis Championships. For the 10th consecutive time the event was held indoors in Biberach an der Riß, located in the Upper Swabia region of Baden-Württemberg.

Friedsam won the women’s final on Sunday rallying past No. 2 seed Antonia Lottner 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. The 24-year-old repsents the TEC Waldau Stuttgart and has returned to the courts for the first time since losing to Angelique Kerber in the first round of this year’s Australian Open in January. Friedsam dropped to World No. 552 in the WTA-Rankings due to a shoulder injury. She reached a career high World No. 45 in 2016 and has now clinched the National women’s singles title for the third time following her triumphs in 2013 and 2015.

“This title means a lot to me. Being back on the tennis court makes me really happy,” Friedsam said. “I was a bit nervous at the beginning of the match. The surface is really fast and it was not easy to cope with the speed. The longer the match lasted, however, the better I was able to adapt to the conditions and to play my game.”

Moraing wins men’s title

Later in the day, Mats Moraing could clinch his first National Championship title. The 26-year-old from Mühlheim an der Ruhr beat 2015 titlist and practice partner Oscar Otte 6-2, 6-4 in the men’s final.

“It was a tough match against my best friend. We played the same tournaments all over the season but didn’t face each other this year. Of course I am very happy to win this title,” Moraing stated.

Jule Niemayer and Daniel Masur clinched the mixed doubles title. The duo won the final on Friday by walkover, as Louis Weßels, who teamed up with Julia Wachaczyk, was forced to withdraw from the match due to injury.
