Lorenzo Frigerio clinched his first title of the season. The 29-year-old from Italy won the 6th Qatar ITF Futures 2018 held at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex. Frigerio, who battled through the qualifying upset No. 2 seed Aslan Karatsev of Russia 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 in Saturday’s singles final.
Friegior sent down seven aces and capitalized on three of his five break point opportunities to seal victory in two hours and five minutes.
“ I’m happy with the winning, it was a good experience in Doha, last tournament I could only reach the second round and now I won over seeded two in the tournament it feels so good as it’s my first win after my injury rest,” Frigerio said.
On Friday, Alexander Igoshin from Russia and Bernardo Saraiva of Portugal took the doubles title. The No. 2 seeds beat Mikalai Haliak of Belaurs and Russian Alexander Zhurbin 6-2, 6-4. The encounter lasted 56 minutes.
