INDIAN WELLS, March 2, 2019
Jennifer Brady won Friday’s battle of the US-Americans in her quarterfinal matchup at the Oracle Challenger Series with Nicole Gibbs, coming out on top 7-5, 6-0.
The 23-year-old from Florida won 82 per cent of her first service points and broke her opponent’s serve five times to advance in one hour and 10 minutes.
No. 1 seed Wang Qiang of China also continued her dominating performance, rolling through Karolina Pliskova from Czech Republic 6-4, 6-4. Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan and Viktorija Golubic from Switzerland also advanced to the semi-finals on Saturday.
On the men’s side, British No. 1 seed Kyle Edmund needed three sets to overcome Germany’s Yannick Maden, 3-6, 6-0, 6-3, while seventh-seeded Andrey Rublev of Russia registered a dominating performance in his match against Aussie Alex Bolt, 6-4, 6-3. Daniel Evans from Great Britian and South African youngster Lloyd Harris complete the list of semifinalists.

In addition to the singles semifinals, the championship matches for both the men’s and women’s doubles will also be played on Saturday. US-Americans JC Aragone and Marcos Giron take on Miomir Kecmanovic and Dominik Koepfer, while Taylor Townsend and Yanina Wickmayer will look to defend their title against Vera Lapko and Mandy Minella.
Additionally, for the second year in a row US-American Reilly Opelka‘s performance in the Oracle Challenger Series earned him a wild card into the main draw at the BNP Paribas Open, awarded to the top two finishers in the Series. Though he only played at Chicago last fall, Opelka’s finals appearance in that event was enough to secure him the wild card. The additional women’s spot will be awarded based on the results this weekend.
