The four top seeds advanced to the second round on Monday at the € 42,500 ATP Challenger Intermek Tennis Internazionali Di Tennis Del Friuli Venezia Giulia in Cordenons.

The tournament’s favourite Albert Ramos defeated only 18-year-old Jaume Munar in an all-Spanish-affair, winning 6-3, 6-0. The world number 55 saved all three break points he face and capitalized on five of his own to seal victory in 58 minutes.

Ramos will take on Michael Linzer next, who knocked off last Sunday’s champion in Prague Rogerio Dutra Silva, winning 7-6, 6-4 in two hours and eight minutes.

Second seed Paolo Lorenzi, who returned to the clay from Slovenia’s hard courts in Portoroz, adapted extraordinary well, winning 6-0, 6-0 against Pedja Krstin. The 33-year-old Italian didn’t have to face a break point and won 88% of his first service points to prevail after 44 minutes.

Lorenzi will face compatriot Thomas Fabbiano in the second round, who defeated another Italian in person of Federico Gaio 6-2, 6-2 in 64 minutes.

Cordenon’s third favourite Filip Krajinovic dismissed Mohamed Safwat, winning 7-5, 6-2. The 23-year-old Serbian saved the two break points he faced and capitalized on three of his own to advance after one hour and 17 minutes taking on Erik Crepaldi next. The world number 291 from Italy overcame his fellow countryman Adelchi Vigili after one hour and 46 minutes through a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 victory.

Fourth seed Kenny de Schepper beat Croatian qualifier Nikola Mektic in one hour and 35 minutes, winning 7-5, 6-4. The 28-year-old Frenchman fired nine aces and converted two of his seven break points to set a second round clash with eighth seeded Italian Gianluca Naso. The world number 453 from Treviso took out qualifier Nicola Ghedin, winning 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 in two hours and four minutes.

Second round matches scheduled for Wednesday had to be postponed to Thursday due to bad weather.
