Frenchman Corentin Moutet opened his title bid at the Tallahassee Tennis Challenger on Tuesday. The No. 3 seed of the $54,160 green clay-court event benefited from the retirement of Alejandro Gonzalez of Colombia, leading 6-2, 4-2.
Moutet has won 58 per cent of the total points played until Gonzalez was forced to stop playing due to a right ankle injury. The match ended after one hour and 14 minutes. The 20-year-old from Bolougne-Billancourt will next take on ITF-entry Alejandro Tabilo of Chile, who knocked out No. 15 seed JC Aragone from the United States, winning 6-2, 6-2.
Marc Polmans also advanced to the third round, fighting past US-American Sebastian Korda 7-6(3), 6-7(3), 6-4. The sixth seed from Australia withstood 11 aces, breaking his opponent’s serve four times to prevail after two hours and 49 minutes.
Next up for Polmans will be Emilio Gomez of Ecuador, who edged out No. 11 seeded German Mats Moraing. The 27-year-old won 7-5, 6-1 in 66 minutes.
