BORDEAUX, May 2, 2019

Four Frenchmen lead the quarterfinals line-up at the BNP Paribas Primrose held on clay-courts at the 120-year-old Villa Primrose in Bordeaux. Lucas Pouille, top seed of the €114,800 ATP Challenger event, fought past Spanish veteran Tommy Robredo, winning  6-3, 1-6, 6-2 on Thursday evening.

The World No. 32 sent down six aces and won 73 per cent of his first service points to prevail after one hour and 40 minutes. Pouille will next take on No. 12 seed Quentin Halys from France, who beat Oscar Otte from Germany 7-5, 6-1.

Earlier in the day, Adrian Mannarino, emerged victorious from the all-French encounter with Maxime Janvier, winning 6-2, 6-4. The No. 2 seed saved eight of the nine break points he faced, converting four of his own to advance in one hour and 26 minutes. Mannarino will next play Swedish young gun Mikael Ymer.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who is competing in his first ATP Challenger event since lifting the trophy in Surbiton 2007, defeated Hugo Nys from Monaco 7-5, 6-3. The third seed won 55 per cent of the total points played to seal victory in one hour and 17 minutes. Next up for Tsonga will be No. 11 seed Filip Horansky from Slovakia.

Gregoire Barrere rounds out the top four seeded Frenchmen in the stage of the final eight. The 25-year-old from Saint Maur des Fosses edged past Zdenek Kolar from the Czech Republic 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in one hour and 47 minutes to set up a quarterfinals clash with Italy’s Gianluca Mager.
