GLASGOW, May 7, 2019

Great Britain’s governing tennis body, LTA, has confirmed a new title for the Scotland ATP Challenger tournament, the Murray Trophy – Glasgow, which will be held at Scotstoun Leisure Centre from 16 to 22 September 2019. The name was chosen in honour of Murray family’s contributions to the sport.

Brothers Jamie and two-time Wimbledon champion Andy helped Great Britain to win the Davis Cup for the first time in 79 years in 2015. They have won nine Grand Slam titles between them. Their mother Judy is a coach and former Fed Cup captain of the British team.

Jamie Murray is one of the key persons behind this ATP Challenger event and is set to enter the doubles draw despite the fact that he is ranked inside the top-10. LTA will host the tournament together with Glasgow Life, Glasgow City Council and Tennis Scotland.

“I’m excited to be working with the LTA and Glasgow Life on this event and honoured to have it named in recognition of my family’s achievements in the sport.  I really hope we can use the Murray Trophy – Glasgow to increase awareness of tennis and create opportunities for more boys and girls to play, both in Scotland and Britain as a whole,” Jamie Murray was quoted on the LTA website.

Tickets for the indoor-event will go on sale on Thursday 30 May and will be available online.
