Following his first match win on the ATP Challenger Tour against Jurgen Zopp of Estonia in Nottingham last week, British teenager Paul Jubb advanced to the second round of the Ilkley Trophy. The 19-year-old wild card entry from Yorkshire rallied past Egor Gerasimov of Belarus, winning 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-2 on Monday afternoon at the Ilkley Lawn Tennis and Squash Club.
Jubb capitalized on four of his 10 break point chances to prevail after two hours and 15 minutes. Earlier this year, the World. No. 579 became Britain’s first NCAA singles champion. He also became the first man from the University of South Carolina to win a men’s tennis championship after Jubb defeated the top seeded Nuno Borges from Mississippi State.
Next up at the €137,560 ATP Challenger grass-court event will be No. 8 seeded Brazilian Thiago Monteiro.

Over on Court one, last year’s runner up Oscar Otte was one of the shocking losses of the day, with Australian Jason Kubler beating the German 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 13 minutes.
Japan’s Yuichi Sugita achieved a win of 1-6, 6-7 against Spanish veteran Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and US-American Marcos Giron won in straight sets over Italian Filippo Baldi. The match between Ilkley returnee Liam Broady and Stefano Nepolitano of Italy reached a tie break at 6-6 before being suspended due to poor weather and will continue on Tuesday morning.
