HAMBURG, June 25, 2019
Rudolf Molleker was awarded the first wild card into the main draw of the Hamburg European Open. This was announced by the German Tennis Federation (DTB). The 18-year-old German will make his third appearance at the Rothenbaum Tennis Center.
In his debut 2016, Molleker battled through the qualifying and lost in the first round to Russia’s Karen Khachanov. Last year, the teenager fought past Spanish veteran David Ferrer in his opening match and fell to Jozef Kovalik in the second round. Also in 2017, Molleker captured his maiden title on the ATP Challenger Tour on home soil in Heilbronn.
The Oranienburg resident competed in his first main draws at Grand Slam level at the Australian Open and Roland Garros earlier this season. Molleker has now put himself in strong position to climb higher than his current career-high of World No. 149.
The ATP 500 clay-court event will be held between July 22-28, 2019.
