Elias Ymer has followed his younger brother Mikael into the second round of the Swedish Open. The 23-year-old wild card entry fought past Thiago Monteiro of Brazil, who arrived in Bastad after his triumph at the ATP Challenger Sparkassen Open in Braunschweig last Saturday.
Ymer sent down seven aces, winning 68 per cent of his first service points to seal a 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 victory in two hours and 38 minutes and records his first Tour-level win since October 2018. Up next for the World No. 116 will be eighth seeded Portuguese Joao Sousa, who defeated Jozef Kovalik of Slovakia 7-6(3), 6-4.

Nicolas Jarry of Chile defeated Henri Laaksonen from Switzerland 7-6(1), 7-5. The No. 5 seed capitalized on four of his six break point chances to advance in one hour and 43 minutes. Jarry will next face Mikael Ymer.
Frenchman Jeremy Chardy will be the first opponent of top seed Cristian Garin, who received a first-round bye. Chardy edged past Spanish qualifier Pablo Carreno Busta 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. The encounter lasted two hours and 11 minutes.
#NextGenATP Norwegian Casper Ruud lost to Damir Dzumhur of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The 27-year-old from Sarajevo beat the No. 7 seed 6-4, 6-2. Dzumhur won 59 per cent of the total points played to prevail after one hour and 26 minutes. He will next take on Roberto Carballes Baena of Spain.
