Roumane To Challenge Tsonga In Cassis Open Provence Quarterfinals

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga booked his spot in the quarterfinals of the Cassis Open Provence. The top seed from France defeated compatriot Antoine Escoffier 7-5, 6-2 on Thursday afternoon.

Tsonga, who entered the €46,600 ATP Challenger hard-court event with a wild card, broke his opponent’s serve six times to prevail after one hour and 26 minutes. Up next for the current World No. 65 will be French teenager Rayane Roumane. The 18-year-old wild card entry upset No. 8 seed Sergiy Stakhovsky from the Ukraine 6-2, 6-2 in 61 minutes to reach the stage of the final eight at Challenger level for the first time.

Fifth seed Mikael Ymer defeated Daniel Masur from Germany 6-2, 7-6(5). The 20-year-old Swede won 53 per cent of the total points played to secure victory in one hour and 48 minutes. Ymer will next play Dmitry Popko from Kazakhstan.

In the remaining two quarterfinal match-ups, No. 9 seed Lukas Rosol from the Czech Republic will oppose in-form Emil Ruusuvuori of Finnland, who already clinched two ATP Challenger titles this season in Fergana as well as in Mallorca, and Dudi Sela of Israel will take on Aleksandr Nedovyesov from Kazakhstan.
