BERGAMO, February 23, 2020
Organizers of the Internazionali di Tennis Trofeo Perrel-Faip in Bergamo announced on Sunday morning that the singles final between Illya Marchenko from the Ukraine and No. 7 seeded Frenchman Enzo Couacaud will not be played due to coronavirus lockdown in Northern Italy.
“I am very disappointed, as I fought hard during the entire week to reach the final. We tried to ask to play without an audience, but it was not possible,” Marchenko commented on the decision. The football game between Atalanta Bergamo and Sassuolo was also canceled, as the Italian government has suspended all sporting events in the regions of Lombardy and Veneto.

In its own way, this edition of the €46,600 ATP Challenger event will remain in history. It has never happened that a tournament did not end due to a medical emergency, while there are several cases of events not concluded for reasons of force majeure, in particular relating to bad weather.
