IASI, September 18, 2020
The semi-finals of the inaugural Concord Iasi Open are set. Top seed Pablo Andujar booked his spot in the stage of the final four following a hard-fought 6-1, 6-7(5), 6-2 win on Friday afternoon over qualifier Felipe Meligeni Rodrigues Alves from Brazil.
The World No. 51 from Spain converted eight of his nine break point chances to secure victory in two hours and 24 minutes. Andujar, who finished runner-up to Kamil Majchrzak at the Moneta Czech Open in Prostejov last Saturday, will next take on Frenchman Mathias Bourgue, who beat No. 4 seeded Austrian Jurij Rodionov 6-2, 6-3.
In the second semi-final, Jaume Munar will take on fellow Spaniard Carlos Taberner. Munar, second favourite of the €88,520 ATP Challenger clay-court event held in Romania’s second-largest metropolis, defeated No. 7 seed Joao Menezes from Brazil 7-5, 7-6(2). The 23-year-old from Mallorca won 55 per cent of the total points played to prevail after one hour and 55 minutes.
Later in the day, Taberner came back from a set down to overcome Adrian Menendez Maceiras of Spain, winning 1-6, 6-0, 6-1. The No. 5 seed finished the encounter after one hour and 54 minutes.
