ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament Moves To March 2021

ABN Amro World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam

ROTTERDAM, January 1, 2021 (Press Release)

The 48th ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament will be held from March 1 to 7 2021. The tournament date has been postponed by three weeks to allow the players to return to Europe after the Australian Open. Together with the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament, all ATP Tour events in February and March are moving to a new start date. This move becomes necessary by the fact that the mandatory quarantine period in Australia puts pressure on the planning for the ATP tournaments prior to the Australian Open and the Grand Slam tournament itself. As a result, it was decided in consultation between ATP and ITF to move the Australian Open.

Tournament director Richard Krajicek: “The other tournaments, including the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament, are happy to contribute to a solution. For every tournament, and certainly for a Grand Slam, it is important that all players can start optimally prepared. The entire tennis community benefits from this. With the solution we have found, that has been achieved. By shifting the entire calendar, it has no impact on the strength of our field and the players can also start well prepared here.”

Preparations

The 48th ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament takes place from March 1 to 7 2021. The qualifying tournament will be played on 27 and 28 February, while the main tournament starts on March 1 st.

Richard Krajicek: “Fortunately, the new date has few consequences for our preparations. During this period, as an organization team, we have become accustomed to ever-changing circumstances. There was also room in the calendar of Rotterdam Ahoy. We therefore look forward to the tournament with great confidence.”

Wheelchair tournament

The ABN AMRO World Wheelchair Tennis Tournament, which is being held simultaneously in Rotterdam Ahoy, will also get a new date. It will be held from 4 to 7 March.
