Zdenek Kolar clinched the trophy of the second edition of the Concord Iasi Open, an ATP Challenger clay-court event hosted by the Ciric Sport Base in Iasi, Romania. The fifth seed from the Czech Republic upset the tournament’s top favourite Hugo Gaston of France 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 in the championship match on Sunday.
Kolar battled through the bottom half of the draw with wins over compatriot and qualifier David Poljak, Aziz Dougaz from Tunisia, Italian Riccardo Bonadio and Serbian qualifier Miljan Zekic.
The World No. 222 withstood seven aces in the final and broke Gaston’s serve five times to seal victory in two hours and 30 minutes.

By winning his second Challenger title following his maiden triumph in Oeiras, Portugal in early April, Kolar took away €12,250 in prize money as well as 100 ATP Ranking points.
Top favourites prevail in doubles
Top seeds Orlando Luz and Felipe Meligeni Rodrigues Alves lifted the doubles trophies on Saturday. The Brazilians beat Hernan Casanova from Argentina and Roberto Ortega-Olmedo of Spain 6-3, 6-4. The encounter lasted one hour and nine minutes.
Luz and Meligeni Rodrigues Alves split €5,250 in prize money and collected 100 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
