Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera captured his first ATP Challenger title by lifting the trophy of the Rhein Asset Open presented by B&B Hotels held at the at the Teremeer Sport and Tennis Resort in Meerbusch, Germany.
The 23-year-old from Chile defeated No. 5 seeded Argentine teenager Juan Manuel Cerundolo 7-6(7), 6-3 in the singles final of the €44,820 clay-court tournament on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
In the pair’s first meeting, Barrios Vera won 72 per cent of his first-service points and broke Cerundolo’s serve four times to seal victory in one hour and 36 minutes.

The Santiago resident, who claimed seven titles on the ITF Pro Circuit and is currently ranked at a career-high World No. 193, collected €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.
The ATP Challenger Tour will stay in Germany for another week with the inaugural Platzmann-Sauerland Open in Lüdenscheid. Main draw action of the €44,820 clay-court event will kick off Monday.
