M25 Trier GER – Tim Handel earns maiden title on the Pro Circuit

Tim Handel took the trophy of the Luxoil Open Trier, held at the venue of the TC Trier 1888 e.V. 

In the all-German semi-finals, the wild card entry fought past No. 4 seeded Marvin Möller in three sets. 

No. 3 seeded Louis Wessels, who clinched the trophy of the Marburg Open in July, took the last step to the final by beating former college player for the Wake Forest University Henri Squire in three sets.

Reutlingen-born Handel won 12 points more in the title match and broke his 23-year-old opponent five times to prevail 6-2, 6-4 in 81 minutes. The 24-year-old, who played college tennis for the Northern Arizona University, celebrated his first singles title on the ITF World Tennis Tour.

I played this tournament here two years ago, and now winning the title here is terrific because I was almost on the way home in the first round. My parents arrived extra for the final, so this was the last push to leave everything on the court today,” Handel said.

M25 Poznan POL – Roman Andres Burruchaga wins another title on Polish soil

Following his maiden championship in Gdynia two weeks ago, Roman Andres Burruchaga clinched the trophy of the Talex Open 2021, hosted by Akademicki Zwiazek Sportowy Poznan.

The 19-year-old Argentinian emerged victorious from the all-Argentinian semifinal clash against No. 6 seed Matias Zukas in straight sets. 

Pawel Cias from Poland knocked off top seeded Japanese Shintaro Mochizuki, the former junior’s World No. 1, in the semi-finals in three sets.

Unseeded Burruchaga capitalized on six of his nine break-point chances in the championship match by dropping four service games to claim a 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 victory after two hours and 32 minutes. The Buenos Aires native lifted his second career trophy on the ITF World Tennis Tour.

M25 Lesa ITA – Matteo Martineau captures second trophy of the season 

The Lesa Cup, held at Sporting Tennis Lesa, concluded with the title win of Matteo Martineau. 

The 22-year-old Frenchman benefited in the semi-finals from the retirement of Argentinian No. 8 seed Matias Franco Descotte after the first game.

Top seed Alessandro Bega of Italy set the final of the top two favourites with a straight-set win against French No. 3 seed and former junior’s World No. 1 Harold Mayot.

In the title match with both players scoring 98 points, No. 2 seeded Martineau gained one break less but secured a 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 victory after two hours and 18 minutes. The Angers native celebrated his fourth career title on the ITF World Tennis Tour and his second in 2021.

M25 Caslano SUI – Calvin Hemery continues his series 

Calvin Hemery clinched the trophy of the M25 Caslano tournament, hosted by the venue of the TC Caslano.

The French No. 2 seed made the last step to the final by defeating Swiss No. 7 seed Antoine Bellier in two sets.

Remy Bertola from Switzerland edged out Colombian No. 4 seed Alejandro Gonzalez in the stage of the last four in straight sets. 

Twenty-six-year-old Hemery sent down seven aces and won 76 per cent of his first-service points in the championship match to succeed 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 after two hours and 50 minutes. The Les Lilas native lifted his seventh singles trophy on the ITF World Tennis Tour in addition to his ATP Challenger title in Tampere 2017. The former ATP No. 116 has won all of his titles on the Pro Circuit only in odd-numbered years since 2015.

M25 Santander ESP – Nicolas Alvarez Varona triumphs on home soil

Nicolas Alvarez Varona took the title of the LXXII Torneo Internacional R.S.T.M, held at Real Sociedad de Tenis de la Magdalena in Santander.

The 20-year-old Spaniard battled through the top half of the draw, beating Juan Bautista Torres from Argentina in the semi-finals in straight sets.

Alex Marti Pujolras benefited in the all-Spanish semifinal encounter from the retirement of Imanol Lopez Morillo after winning the first three games.

Lasting two hours and 42 minutes with both players gaining five breaks in the title match, No. 5 seeded Alvarez Varona sealed victory with 7-6, 2-6, 6-2. The Burgos native, who was ranked World No. 7 as a junior, celebrated his second career title on the ITF World Tennis Tour.

M15 Bad Waltersdorf AUT – Timo Stodder wins maiden title

Timo Stodder is the champion of the Bad Waltersdorf Open 2021, hosted by Sportaktivpark Bad Waltersdorf.

In the semi-finals without any seeded players left in the singles draw, the 25-year-old German eased past Slovenian veteran Tom Kocevar-Desman in two sets.

Lukas Krainer from Austria finished the run of Brazilian qualifier Gabriel Decamps in the stage of the final four in straight sets.

Berlin-born Stodder converted three break-points in the championship match without losing a service game to prevail 6-3, 6-2. The former college-player for the University of Tennessee lifted his first singles trophy on the ITF World Tennis Tour.

M15 Monastir TUN – Li Tu caps sensational run with maiden trophy 

Li Tu emerged victorious at the Magic Hotel Tours tournament, held at Hotel Skanes Family in Monastir to celebrate his first singles title on the ITF World Tennis Tour. 

The Australian won the semi-final battle of the qualifiers against Robin Bertrand from France in straight sets.

Argentinian qualifier Mateo Nicolas Martinez took the last step to the final by defeating Japanese No. 3 seed Renta Tokuda in three sets.

Twenty-five-year-old Tu capitalized on five of his six break-point opportunities in the title match without facing a break point to claim a 6-1, 6-1 win in 63 minutes. The Adelaide resident had been sidelined from courts in the period from summer 2014 to 2020 due to study and working as a tennis coach. Following his successful attendance at the Australian UTR Pro Tennis Series he was awarded a wild card for the main draw of the Murray River Open 2021 and after the withdrawal of Andy Murray for the main draw of the Australian Open.

M15 Bratislava SVK – Mate Valkusz captures back-to-back titles in Bratislava

Following his title win at the National Tennis Centre in the same city last week, top seed Mate Valkusz from Hungary clinched the trophy of the Peugeot Tennis Tour 2021 by Kronreal. The clay-court event was hosted by TK Slavia STU in Bratislava. 

In the semi-finals with the top four favourites in action, Budapest-born Valkusz beat US-American No. 4 seed Vasil Kirkov in two sets.

The tournament’s second seed Danylo Kalenichenko from the Ukraine advanced to the final with a straight-set victory versus Czech No. 3 seed Pavel Nejedly.

Top seeded Valkusz won 90 per cent of his first-service points in the championship match to triumph 6-0, 6-2 in 66 minutes. The 23-year-old, who was ranked World No. 1 as a junior, lifted his 11th singles trophy on the ITF World Tennis Tour, all of them won on clay.

M15 Huy BEL – Guy den Ouden earns maiden trophy 

The Tournoi International de la Province de Liege, held at Centre Provincial de Tennis de Huy, concluded with the title win of Guy den Ouden.

The Dutch won the semi-final clash of the junior entries against Raphael Collignon from Belgium in straight sets.

Belgian No. 3 seed Gauthier Onclin knocked off the tournament’s top favourite Alexis Gautier from France in the stage of the last four in two sets.

Nineteen-year-old den Ouden broke his opponent in the title match for five times by dropping three service games to seal a 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 win after more than two hours. The college player for the Pepperdyne University celebrated his first singles title on the Pro Circuit.
