MORELOS, February 21, 2016
Gerald Melzer claimed his third ATP Challenger title of the season, winning Saturday’s final of the third edition of the $50,000 Morelos Open against Alejandro Gonzalez 7-6, 6-3.
The 25-year-old Austrian saved the only break point he faced, converting one of his three own chances to prevail in one hour and 27 minutes.
Melzer captured his second title in Morelos after he had lifted the trophy here in 2014. In 2016, the world number 136 has already been successful at the clay court events in Mendoza and Bucaramanga. Melzer earns $7,200 in prize money as well as 90 ATP ranking points.
All-Canadian combination of Philip Bester and Peter Polansky claimed the doubles title on Friday, winning 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 over Marcelo Arevalo and Sergio Galdos in 63 minutes.
