PAU/STARNBERG, February 22, 2022

The fourth edition of the Teréga Open Pau-Pyrénées kicked off in style Monday with a special guest, as star DJ and tennis fan Bob Sinclar was on the turntables to entertain more than 2,000 spectators inside the Palais des Sports in Pau, a commune overlooking the Pyrenees in southwestern France. Sinclar was invited by his friend and co-tournament director Jeremy Chardy, one of three current/former French players to lead an ATP Challenger Tour event, joining Arnaud Clement (Aix-en-Provence) and Nicolas Escude (Brest).

The one-hour musical performance took place ahead of the last match of the day when Frenchman Lucas Pouille delighted his home crowd, as he rallied from a set down to overcome No. 5 seed Norbert Gombos of Slovakia 2-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(2). The World No. 140 sent down 10 aces and won 75 per cent of his first-service points to prevail after two hours and 27 minutes.

Pouille will next take on either Russian Roman Safiullin or local wild card entry Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

The €90,280 ATP Challenger 100 tournament is led by World No. 64 Benjamin Bonzi, who captured his seventh Challenger career title in Cherbourg last month and advanced to the semi-finals of an ATP Tour event for the first time in Marseille last week. Veteran Richard Gasquet, who was supposed to be the second seed, was forced to withdraw due to a knee injury.
