Portuguese World No. 173 Gastao Elias has clinched his third consecutive ATP Challenger Tour title on home soil by winning the €45,730 Oeiras Open 2. The 31-year-old beat No. 5 seed Alessandro Giannessi 7-6(4), 6-1 in Sunday’s singles final.
Elias, champion at the Centro Desportivo Nacional Do Jamo in May last season as well as last Sunday, sent down three aces, won 81 per cent of his first-service points and broke his rival four times to seal victory in one hour and 10 minutes.

“These two weeks are one of the biggest accomplishments of my career. It’s been a great two weeks and I’m really happy with the level I played at, the consistency I showed and how I held up physically. I ended up in good condition and without injuries, which for me is very important. It couldn’t have been better and I leave here very happy and with a lot of confidence,” said Elias.
By lifting his 10th career trophy on the Challenger Circuit, the Lourinha native earned €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.
