Antoine Bellier from Switzerland has reached the stage of the last four at an ATP Challenger Tour tournament for the first time. The World No. 488 knocked out top seed Andrej Martin of Slovakia 6-3, 6-4 in Friday’s quarterfinals of the San Luis Open.
Bellier, who battled through the qualifying of the $53,120 clay-court event in Mexico, sent down six aces and won 82 per cent of his first-service points to advance after one hour and 20 minutes. The 25-year-old lefty from Geneva, a winner of four ITF World Tennis Tour tournaments, will next take on his compatriot and San Luis Open defending champion Marc-Andrea Huesler. The No. 6 seed edged past Zhizhen Zhang of China 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in one hour and 39 minutes.
Olivo ousts Escobedo
In other action, Renzo Olivo exited No. 3 seed Ernesto Escobedo from the United States 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. The eighth-seeded Argentine broke his rival’s serve five times to prevail after two hours and 29 minutes.

“It was another long match here in three sets, maybe it’s not the best physically, but the important thing is that I made it to the next round. Hopefully we can continue with this streak and this mentality,” said Olivo, who will face No. 2 seed Nicolas Jarry in the semi-finals. The 26-year-old Chilean rallied past Felipe Meligeni Rodrigues Alves 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 in two hours and 26 minutes.
“Nico (Jarry) is a great player, he is very dangerous, he serves very hard and has a lot of variety in his shots. I will have to compete and need to keep fighting,” Olivo said of his upcoming task.
