SAVANNAH/STARNBERG, April 30, 2022

For the first time since 2016, it’s a set of all-US-American semi-finals at the Savannah Challenger, with Bjorn Fratangelo, Christian Harrison, Jack Sock and JJ Wolf comprising the final four.

In the first match of the day, 2016 champion Fratangelo kicked off action against Brazilian qualifier Jose Pereira. The eighth-seeded US-American grabbed the opening set 6-2, but Pereira dug deep and fought his way back into the match, taking the second set 6-4. The final set would go the distance, with Fratangelo prevailing in the tie break, winning 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(3) after two hours and 26 minutes.

Meanwhile on The Landings Company Court, 2018 finalist Harrison took on No. 1 seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry of Argentina. It was all Harrison as the 27-year-old from Shreveport cruised through the first set 6-4. In the second set, Etcheverry was able to grab the opening break over Harrison and take a 2-0 lead. Harrison quickly bounced back, closing out the match with a final score of 6-4, 6-2 after one hour and 47 minutes.

Next up on The Landings Club Court, 2014 finalist Sock and China’s Zhizhen Zhang hit the court. Sock opened the match with a 6-4 first set and looked to be on course for a straight set win, but Zhang was able to get back in the match, taking the second set 6-3. The No. 4 seed from the United States dug deep and rallied to a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 victory in two hours and two minutes..

In the final singles match of the day, Wolf took on his compatriot Alex Rybakov. It was all about Wolf, with the former Ohio State star moving past Rybakov with a 6-3, 6-4 win after one hour and 32 minutes. The World No. 142 remains the only player who can pass Michael Mmoh in the Roland Garros Wild Card Challenge, but he must win the Savannah Challenger title to do so.

Semi-final Saturday gets underway at 12:00 pm local time with the day featuring two singles matches and the double’s championship. Tickets are available for $35.
