It was a great week for me,” Wessels told Tennis TourTalk. “The tournament had almost ended for me in the first match when I twisted my ankle after winning the first set. But I could continue with my swollen foot and get the victory in the tie-break of the deciding set. With the confidence of this win, I battled through a lot of close matches to reach the final. In the championship match, I played by far my best match during the tournament, so I am very happy to win the title after losing three consecutive finals following my triumph in Marburg last season.”

Asked about his scheduled tournaments in the upcoming weeks, he said: “Next up will be the Saturn Oil Open in Troisdorf followed by more ATP Challenger tournaments. This will be the next step in my career.”
