The Mallorca Championships reaches its halfway point with a star-studded line-up on Wednesday. The tournament’s top four seeds, Daniil Medvedev of Russia, Stefanos Tsitsipas from Greece, Canadian Denis Shapovalov and Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain will make their debut in the round of 16 in Calvia.

The World No. 1 will begin his title defense at the Mallorca Country Club at 4 pm local time against Aslan Karatsev of Russia on Centre Court. Medvedev, recent finalist at ‘s-Hertogenbosch and Halle, will try to extend his good form on grass against the World No. 43. Karatsev comes into the clash after managing to come from behind in his first-round match against home favourite Jaume Munar, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.

World No. 4 Tsitsipas will also step into action facing Ilya Ivashka of Belarus. The second seed of the ATP 250 grass-court tournament and champion of the Monte-Carlo Masters is taking on an opponent, who defeated Emil Ruusuvuori from Finland in the first round 6-4, 6-1.

Shapovalov will make his Grandstand debut against Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi. The Canadian, third seed and semi-finalist at Wimbledon last year, will play for the first time in Mallorca. Bonzi started the tournament with a victory against Alejandro Tabilo of Chile, who withdrew due to injury at the score of 6-3, 4-2.

Wednesday’s action on Centre Court will begin at 1 pm local time with fourth favourite Carreno Busta facing Antoine Bellier of Switzerland. The semi-finalist at the Mallorca Country Club last year will open his home campaign against an opponent, who comes from the qualifying and continued his run with a 6-3, 7-6(6) win over Argentine Federico Delbonis in the opening round of the main draw.
