ROTTERDAM, August 26, 2022 (Press Release)
World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev will play at the 50th ABN AMRO Open in February next year. The 2021 US Open winner will compete in the ATP 500 tournament in Rotterdam for the fifth time.
“We are proud to announce the number one in the world,” said tournament director Richard Krajicek. “We are very happy to welcome him again in Rotterdam, especially for our anniversary edition. It’s great that we succeeded, just before he defends his title in New York.”
Medvedev will start his title defense at the US Open on Monday. Along with winning the Nitto ATP Finals in 2020, the triumph at Flushing Meadows was the pinnacle of his career so far. In total he has already won 14 titles, all but one on hard court, the surface that is also used in the ABN AMRO Open.
The Russian made his debut at the Ahoy Arena in 2018 when he battled his way from the qualifying to the quarterfinals. One year later, Medvedev achieved his best result by advancing to the semi-finals. He lost to eventual champion Gaël Monfils.
