He is still unbeaten at the Tennis Club Weissenhof and wants to stay that way! We are talking about two-time Stuttgart champion Matteo Berrettini, who confirmed his participation in next year’s BOSS OPEN taking place from 10 to 18 June 2023.

Berrettini still has a spotless record at the Weissenhof. The 26-year-old Italian claimed his first title in 2019 without losing a set. In his second appearance in June this year, the Rome native had to go the distance of three sets three times, but after a 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 victory in a dramatic and high-class final over Scotland’s Andy Murray, Berrettini was able to celebrate his second triumph in Stuttgart. Next year, he will be aiming for a hat-trick and could equal Rafael Nadal, who is the only player to have won three times at the ATP 250 tournament (2005, 2007 on clay, 2015 on grass).

For Berrettini, this year’s triumph was very emotional in two respects. On the one hand, as a BOSS brand ambassador, he won the Weissenhof tournament, which was held for the first time as the BOSS OPEN. On the other hand, he celebrated his comeback in Stuttgart after undergoing a hand surgery that had sidelined him from the courts for three months. “This victory feels even more special than my first success three years ago. It was a tough week mentally, but I fought and now I won. This title means a lot to me,” Berrettini said after winning the final.

Berrettini has not only won the BOSS OPEN twice, but also the grass-court tournament at London’s Queen’s Club (2021, 2022). Last year, he also stormed into the final of Wimbledon. “I have special memories of Stuttgart and feel very comfortable at the Tennis Club Weissenhof. The atmosphere is great and the fans are very passionate. Of course, it will be hard to win the tournament for a third time, but that is my big goal,” said Berrettini.

“We are delighted to welcome Matteo Berrettini, an absolute top star, to the BOSS OPEN 2023. He plays highly attractive tennis and thrills fans worldwide with it. He also wants to add the next chapter to his impressive success story in Stuttgart next year,” tournament director Edwin Weindorfer stated in a press release.
