BERLIN/STARNBERG, June 25, 2023
World No. 9 Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic captured her second title of the season on Sunday after defeating Donna Vekic of Croatia 6-2, 7-6(6) to win the bett1open presented by ecotrans Group in Berlin, Germany.
Kvitova, No. 7 seed of the WTA 500 event, struck eight aces and won 73 per cent of her first-service points to seal victory in one hour and 41 minutes.
“I didn’t expect this title when the week started here. But grass is my favourite surface,” Kvitova said. “Donna has had a great tournament week and is back in the top 20 where she belongs.”
Vekic, on the other hand, said: “Petra played unbelievably. In this form, she’s a title contender everywhere.”
