Three Top 20 players headline the men’s entry list of the 2023 Hamburg European Open. This was announced by the organizers of the The ATP 500 clay-court event on Tuesday. The tournament will be held from July 22 to 30 at the Rothenbaum Tennis Stadium.
Casper Ruud, runner-up to Novak Djokovic at this year’s French Open at Roland Garros, is expected to be the top seed. The World No. 4 from Norway will bid for his 11th career title, his second of the season following his triumph in Estoril, Portugal.
Ruud, however, will face strong competition with defending champion Lorenzo Musetti of Italy, Argentine Francisco Cerundolo as well as home favourites Alexander Zverev and Jan-Lennard Struff.

Kasatkina leads women’s entry list
The women’s entry list of Germany’s only combined event will feature World No. 11 Daria Kasatkina of Russia, last week’s Berlin finalist Donna Vekic from Croatia and Russian youngster Anastasia Potapova. Bernarda Pera from the United States will also return to Hamburg to defend her title.
“I am very happy about our entry lists. We can again present a highly exciting mix of German and international stars of the young and older generation as well as completely new faces,” said tournament director Sandra Reichel.
“The pre-ticket sales show that many Hamburg residents are looking forward to Alexander Zverev’s return to his hometown. I am proud that Alexander will play again at the Rothenbaum for the first time since 2019. I am also very excited about the trio Jan-Lennard Struff, Yannick Hanfmann and Daniel Altmaier. These three have all achieved new career-high rankings this year and have brought a lot of joy to German tennis fans recently.”
