Thiago Seyboth Wild from Brazil clinched the title of the Challenger Citta’ di Como. The top seed of the €73,000 ATP Challenger Tour clay-court tournament in Northern Italy came back from a set down to outlast fifth favourite Pedro Martinez of Spain 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 in Sunday’s singles final.

Seyboth Wild advanced to the championship match with wins in the top half of the draw over home favourite Franco Agamenone, Austrian alternate Lukas Neumayer, Rudolf Molleker of Germany and fourth-seeded Frenchman Benoit Paire.

The World No. 107 sent down seven aces and won 72 per cent of his first-service points to prevail after two hours and 51 minutes.

“I started the match quite nervously. It’s normal that this happens in important matches, in finals. I am just happy that I got the win today. Pedro had an amazing week and I am really happy for him. He is a great guy but I got the best out of this match today and won the title here. It is really important for me,” said Seyboth Wild.

The 23-year-old lifted his fourth ATP Challenger Tour career title, his third of the season following his triumphs in Vina del Mar, Chile and Buenos Aires, Argentina. Seyboth Wild earned €9,880 in prize money as well as 75 ATP Ranking points and is projected to crack the Top 100 for the first time in his career.
