TALLAHASSEE, May 1 ,2016

France’s Quentin Halys outlasted USA’s Frances Tiafoe to win the $50,000 Tallahassee Tennis Challenger title, the first of his career, Saturday afternoon at Forestmeadows Tennis Complex.

The 19-year-old, who made his Tallahassee debut this week, becomes the youngest champion in tournament history with his 6-7(6) 6-4 6-2 victory over his 18-year-old opponent.

After a tight two sets it was Halys who cruised to victory in the deciding set thanks to three aces and four breaks. The match lasted two hours and eight minutes.

“The last Challenger in the U.S. it’s very good to go home with the title,” said Halys, who takes away $7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP ranking points.

Halys is the fourth ATP Challenger teen titlist this season, joining Taylor Fritz, Andrey Rublev and Blake Motte.

The ATP World Tour ‘Next Generation’ star is the first French teenager to win a Challenger title since Guillaume Rufin won in Florianopolis in 2009.

Top seed doubles duo of Dennis Novikov and Julio Peralta became the first-ever back-to-back Tallahassee Tennis Challenger champions, defeating the Aussie coach/player duo of Peter Luczak and Marc Polmans 3-6 6-4 12-10 in one hour and 27 minutes.

This is the pair’s second title together.

The Tallahassee Tennis Challenger will return to Forestmeadows April 22-29, 2017.
