The 2024 United Cup Perth has come to thrilling end with Team Poland and Australia winning their respective quarterfinals today at RAC Arena.
Kicking off the final day, Team Poland, led by World No. 1 Iga Swiatek and World No. 9 Hubert Hurkacz defeated Team China 3-0.
In the evening, World No. 12 and local favourite Alex de Minaur claimed his biggest career victory defeating world No. 1 Novak Djokovic and setting the tone for a decisive 3-0 Australian win over Serbia. Ajla Tomljanovic and WA duo Matt Ebden and Storm Hunter also won their respective singles and mixed doubles matches, in front of more than 10,000 fans who turned up for the final tie of the event.
More than 73,000 fans attended the United Cup in Perth over six days of competition. Poland and Australia will now travel to Sydney for the United Cup semifinals being played at Ken Rosewall Arena on Saturday 6 January.
While competing in Perth, players enjoyed touring local spots with five teams visiting Rottnest Island including Team Australia, Serbia, USA, Czech Republic and Brazil. Team Poland enjoyed surfing at Scarborough Beach, while Team China visited Cottesloe Beach and Team USA exchanged courts in a meeting with Perth Wildcats captain Jesse Wagstaff and US import Kristian Doolittle at the outdoor Basketball court at Scarborough. Team Australia and Team Poland will travel from Perth to Sydney tomorrow after advancing to the United Cup semifinals.
Poland will play the winner of France vs Norway on Saturday. Australia will play the winner of Greece vs Germany.
The United Cup final will be contested at 5.30pm AEDT Sunday 7 January.
SYDNEY QUARTERFINALS
Greece, Germany, France and Norway have advanced to the United Cup quarterfinals in Sydney.
The quarterfinals at Ken Rosewall Arena will be held across two days – 5.30pm AEDT Thursday 4 January and 5.30pm AEDT Friday 5 January.
