STUTTGART, March 20, 2024
Ben Shelton will make his debut at the BOSS OPEN this year. This was announced by the organizers of the ATP 250 tournament. The grass-court event will be held from June 8 to 16, 2024 at the Tennis Club Weissenhof in Stuttgart, Germany.
The son of former US pro Bryan Shelton, who claimed two ATP Tour career titles and reached reached a career-high of World No. 55, exclusively competed in tournaments on home soil until the end of 2022. However, Shelton managed to break into the Top 100. By reaching the quarterfinals of the Australian Open in January 2023, the 21-year-old firmly stepped into the international spotlight.
Another memorable Grand Slam moment for the left-hander came at last year’s US Open in New York, where he reached his first semifinal at a major. In New York, Shelton also made headlines with his blistering serves, which he hammered over the net at speeds of up to 239 kilometers per hour – setting a speed record in Flushing Meadows. One of the most prominent supporters of the young star is none other than Roger Federer. At the BOSS OPEN, the current World No. 17 Shelton could follow in the footsteps of the “Maestro,” who triumphed at the Stuttgart Weissenhof in 2018.
“I’ve heard a lot of positive things about the BOSS OPEN, so I’m excited to see what awaits me there. The first grass court tournament of the season is always a special challenge, but at the same time, it’s a perfect opportunity to get in shape for the Wimbledon Grand Slam. I’m looking forward to playing in Stuttgart for the first time this year,” said Ben Shelton, who won his first ATP tournament in Tokyo in October 2023.
Shelton will be joined in Stuttgart by fellow US-American Christopher Eubanks, who showcased his abilities on grass courts impressively last season by winning the tournament in Mallorca and reaching the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.
