ROTTERDAM, July 16, 2024 (Press Release)
Reigning Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz will make his debut at the ABN AMRO Open in February 2025. The 21-year-old Spaniard will join Jannik Sinner, the current World No.1 at the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam.
Tournament director Richard Krajicek stated: “Carlos Alcaraz has been high on our wish list for a while. With four Grand Slam titles to his name at the age of only 21, he is one of the most spectacular talents ever. So it’s about time he comes to the ABN AMRO Open.”
After Sinner, Alcaraz is the second player who has committed to participating next year.
“Sinner and Alcaraz are the two players who can dominate tennis in the coming years. It is not without reason that they won all three Grand Slams this year. We are therefore very proud that we can welcome them both,” Krajicel said.
Debut in Rotterdam
Alcaraz makes his debut in Rotterdam, but can turn to his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero for advice. He played six times in Rotterdam, reaching the 2004 final as the best result.
“I am happy that Carlos has chosen to travel to Europe this time after the Australian Open. As a young player he was given the opportunity on the clay in Rio. A surface that many Spanish players grow up with. With titles at Wimbledon, US Open and Roland Garros, he has now shown that he is one of the very best on all types of court surfaces,” said Krajicek.
