Joao Domingues emerged victorious from Sunday’s all-Portuguese final against Francisco Rocha to win the Eupago Porto Open. Organized by the Porto Tennis Association with the support of the Portuguese Tennis Federation and the Porto City Council, the ITF World Tennis Tour M25 tournament took place at the Monte Aventino Sports Complex from July 21 to 28.

In the third all-Portuguese final in the tournament’s history, the 30-year-old Domingues defeated 24-year-old Rocha, who was playing in his first singles final, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 after two hours and 28 minutes.

Domingues, the more experienced of the two finalists, had not dropped a set until the final, while Rocha started his campaign with a comeback from 1-4 in the deciding set to defeat the top seed Goncalo Oliveira, who is now representing Venezuela.

Nine years after his first final appearance at the Eupago Porto Open, then on clay, Domingues finally claimed the coveted trophy, joining Leonardo Tavares (2007), Frederico Gil (2014), Joao Monteiro (2017), and Gastao Elias (2020) in the gallery of Portuguese champions.

The victory at the Eupago Porto Open will boost World No. 722 Domingues up more than 100 places in the ATP Rankings. Both finalists will turn their attention to the upcoming Eupago Porto Open ATP Challenger 125, also held at the Monte Aventino Sports Complex.
