Gaubas Wins Maiden Challenger Title, Prevails In Cordenons

Lithuanian teenager Vilius Gaubas has claimed his maiden title on the ATP Challenger Tour by winning the Serena Wines 1881 – Acqua Maniva Tennis Cup in Cordenons. The 19-year-old Siauliai native outlasted Spaniard Carlos Taberner 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 in Sunday’s singles final.

Gaubas, No. 4 seed of the €74,825 clay-court event in Italy, converted five of his 12 break-point opportunities to seal victory in three hours and two minutes.

Following five triumphs on the ITF World Tennis Tour, Gaubas lifted his first Challenger trophy. The World No. 221 earned € 10,200 in prize money as well as 75 ATP Ranking points.
