The Davis Cup Team of the United States maximized its results in the Group Stage of the Finals with a 2-1 victory over Germany on Saturday to optimize its seeding when the Final 8 bracket is drawn.

Reilly Opelka fought past Henri Squire, who made his Davis Cup debut, in three sets in the opening singles rubber followed by a straight-sets victory from Brandon Nakashima over Maximilian Marterer.

“It was a great performance once again,” Nakashima said. “Happy to get the win for the team and to go 3-0 in all our matches here, super exciting and really enjoyed this week.”

Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz won the doubles rubber against Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram 6-1, 7-6. With this win, Krawietz and Puetz improved their Davis Cup record to 13 victories with only one loss, equaling a historic record. Only Jürgen Fassbender and Hans-Jürgen Pohmann achieved 13 wins as a German doubles team in the Davis Cup, but they lost two more matches than Krawietz and Puetz.

The United States will compete for the Davis Cup title in Malaga, Spain, November 19-24, alongside Australia, Spain, Germany, Canada, Italy and two other nations still to be determined.

This year will now also see both the U.S. Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup teams competing in their respective Finals alongside one another, with both Finals scheduled to be played in Malaga at the same venue in consecutive weeks. The Billie Jean King Cup Finals, for which the U.S. has qualified, will be played November 13-20.
