With the second-round matches concluded, the quarterfinal lineup of the Tenerife Challenger 2 is now complete. The hard courts of the Abama Tennis Academy are set to host the decisive stages of the second consecutive ATP Challenger Tour 75 event organized by MEF Tennis Events, under the patronage of Turismo de Tenerife.
Among the players advancing is Daniel Rincon, who secured a 6-1, 7-6(5) victory over former Top 50 Argentine Pedro Cachin. The 22-year-old Spaniard sent down three aces and won 71 per cent of his first-service points to advance in one hour and 37 minutes.
“I had good sensations right from the start,” said the World No. 260, who celebrated his first match wins at the Abama Tennis Academy this week. “I increased my intensity after my opening-round match against Rottgering, which was essential because facing Pedro is always difficult.”
Rincon is aiming for a breakthrough in professional tennis after an impressive junior career, which saw him win the US Open Boys’ Singles title and reach No. 2 in the ITF World Junior rankings. In July 2024, he clinched his first ATP Challenger Tour title in Tampere, Finland, but he currently sits 79 spots below his career-high ATP ranking of World No. 181.
“I’m improving step by step, making the right choices—maybe more slowly than I’d like, but I’m happy with my daily progress,” he added.
Speaking about his experience in Tenerife, Rincon said: “I love coming here. The weather and facilities are amazing. Abama even has a golf course, and I enjoy spending time there to relax and clear my mind.”
The left-hander from Madrid will be back on court Friday for an all-Spanish quarterfinal against Nicolas Alvarez Varona, who advanced after Canadian Steven Diez retired early in their match.
Top seed Dominik Koepfer also progressed after a 7-5, 6-3 win against qualifier Chris Rodesch of Luxemburg. In other action between two qualifiers Filip Misolic of Austria overcame Switzerland’s Jakub Paul 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 54 minutes.
