The ATP Challenger Tour is back in France for the seventh edition of the Terega Open Pau-Pyrenees, being held this week at the Palais des Sports de Pau.

Main draw action got underway Monday with in-form Frenchman Arthur Bouquier. Fresh off his title win at the Play In Challenger Lille earlier in February, the 24-year-old wild card entry continued his run by upsetting fourth seed Martin Landaluce. Employing an aggressive game mixed with precise drop shots, Bouquier battled past the Spanish talent in three sets, winning 6-7(3), 6-3, 7-5 in two hours and 22 minutes.

Up next for the World No. 251 will be either Robin Bertrand or qualifier Pierre Delage, both from France.

In other first-round action, Lukas Klein of Slovakia defeated France’s Antoine Escoffier in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. Fifth seed Harold Mayot had no trouble dispatching China’s Jie Cui, cruising to a dominant 6-2, 6-2 victory. Manuel Guinard, who initially secured an early break in his match against Belgium’s Alexander Blockx, was forced to retire due to injury before the sixth game, leading 3-2 in the first set.
