The II Yucatan Open witnessed a dream ending for the local crowd, as home favourite Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez served for the championship point, securing his first ATP Challenger Tour doubles title alongside his Swiss partner Kilian Feldbausch. The duo defeated second-seeded US-Americans George Goldhoff and Trey Hildebrand 6-4, 6-2, on Saturday at the Lorenzo Molina Casares Stadium Court of Club Campestre de Yucatan.

Pacheco Mendez and Feldbausch showed great coordination with Feldbausch’s powerful shots and Pacheco’s solid net play. The pair secured victory in 56 minutes.

“Thank you to everyone who came out all week, his wouldn’t have been possible without you,” Pacheco Mendez said during the on-court ceremony. “Thanks to Club Campestre for hosting this great event, to Adhemar Rodríguez, the supervisor, the ball kids, umpires, and my doubles partner for an incredible week. Also, thanks to my team and family. See you all next year!”

Ficovich knocks out top seed in singles

The singles semifinals saw No. 3 seed Juan Pablo Ficovich and fourth favourite Felipe Meligeni Alves emerge victorious in two epic battles, securing their places in the Yucatan Open final.

Ficovich edged out top-seeded Bolivian Hugo Dellien 6-3, 5-7, 7-5, while Meligeni Alves defeated second seed Cristian Garin of Chile 6-7(6), 6-3, 6-4, setting the stage for Sunday’s title match.

Ficovich fought tirelessly for two hours and 31 minutes to overcome Dellien, a 13-time Challenger titleholder. The Argentine started strong, racing to a 4-1 lead in just 16 minutes. However, Dellien staged an impressive comeback, forcing a dramatic decider.

At 5-5 in the third set, Dellien saved multiple break points in a grueling 14-point game, but Ficovich finally capitalized on his seventh set point to go up 6-5. In the final game, Ficovich sealed the win on his fourth match point, after a tightly contested final rally.

“I’m really happy. I think I played a great match. I had several chances to break in the second set but couldn’t convert. Hugo is an incredible fighter. Losing that second set was tough, but I stayed strong mentally in the third. I’m thrilled to be in the final,” said Ficovich.

Meligeni Alves rallies from a set down

In the second semifinal of the day, Meligeni Alves overcame an early setback to defeat former world No. 17 Garin in three sets. Meligeni led 2-0 early, but Garin quickly responded, pushing the set to a tiebreak, where the Chilean saved a set point and clinched it 7-6(6).

The second set saw multiple breaks, but Meligeni took control at 5-2 and closed it out. In the final set, the Brazilian broke early for a 2-0 lead and maintained his advantage until securing the victory.

“Thank you to everyone who stayed and supported us. The atmosphere was incredible,” Meligeni said after the match. “It was a very tough battle. The first set was frustrating—I even smashed my racket—but I managed to raise my level against a great player like Cristian, who was once No. 17 in the world. I’m happy to be in another final.”

Looking ahead to the final, Melig ni added: “It will be tough. Ficovich is playing great tennis. He just beat Hugo in an incredible match, but I will stick to my game plan and give my best.”
